Grazie a tutti i partecipanti.

Once again the international Mail Art call returns this year to Sant'Oreste, an invitation to artists to freely express themselves through Mail Art based on the theme chosen each year. 2020 will be the centenary of the birth of a brilliant and significant personality who has indelibly affected the collective imagination and the artistic landscape of our country and beyond: Federico Fellini.
Fellini’s world, interpreted through the eyes of the artists, will be this year’s theme.

The exhibition of all participating artworks is curated by Tiziana Todi in collaboration with the Town of Sant'Oreste and the Pro Loco tourist office of Sant'Oreste.
The exhibition will open on 18 January 2020 at 10AM at the sixteenth century Palazzo Caccia-Canali – Mount Soratte Nature Museum, attributed to architect Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola and subject of the 2011 FAI campaign for the protection of cultural and natural heritage, up until February 23rd, 2020.

The “Fellinian” world

Federico Fellini was a filmmaker, screenwriter, cartoonist and writer, among the most celebrated of all time.
He was born in Rimini on January 20th, 1920 and, while attending classical studies in his city, he started working as a caricaturist for the Fulgor cinema manager, who commissioned him portraits of the most famous actors to be hung in the hall.
The childhood told in his stories has been shrouded in mystery and made legendary, halfway between fiction and reality: running away from home to follow the circus clowns, wandering along with the Varieté companies and other very suggestive, but definitely unlikely episodes.
In the summer of 1937, Fellini together with the painter Demos Bonini founded the 'Febo' studio, where the two created caricatures for tourists.
In the meantime, he began to work as a cartoonist for some magazines and when, immediately after graduation, he moved to Rome with the excuse of enrolling in University, he began working at the 'Marc'Aurelio'.
“ In 1938, an afternoon in October, I arrived at the station, got on a chariot and went to Via Albalonga, in the San Giovanni district. The first thing that happened to me, getting off the chariot in front of house number 13 in search of the landlord, was getting spit on the head by three little boys who didn't even move away from the window.
It was the discovery of the Roman citizen, the ancient papal subject who lives in an unlikely city treacherously grown around him, one who does not trust himself to tell the truth because "one never knows", fearful for atavistic fears, a man with very close perspectives , surrounded by history and monuments but related only to daily habits and to the family tribe, mother sisters, grandparents aunt grandchildren.”
During these years, Fellini regularly attended the world of variety shows and radio and wrote screenplays, collaborating with Aldo Fabrizi, Erminio Macario and Marcello Marchesi.
In 1943 he met a young actress, Giulietta Masina, who played on the radio Pallina, a character conceived by Federico himself, in the comedy 'The adventures of Cico and Pallina'. Federico and Giulietta got married in October that same year and stayed together their whole life.
In 1951 with "Luci della città" he made his directorial debut and the film already reveals some characteristic features of his later film production.
Federico Fellini worked both as a screenwriter and a cartoonist until 1948, since he was a professional draftsman.
As a film director, he continues drawing with craft the storyboards of his films.
His film production gives him considerable notoriety beyond national and oversea borders and some of his films are part of the history of cinema worldwide.
On October 31, 1993, Federico Fellini died in Rome. A few months earlier he had received his fifth Academy Award in Hollywood, in honor of his career.
In the press room he had replied to those who asked him what effect the adjective 'Fellinian', so often used in America, had on him:
“I always dreamed of being an adjective when I would grow up. I am flattered. What Americans mean by 'Fellinian', I can imagine: opulent, extravagant, dreamlike, bizarre, neurotic storytelling. Here, storyteller is the right term”.
